Take a Sleigh Ride - A Romantic Valentine Idea

Are you looking for a romantic Valentine idea to surprise your special Valentine? There are many ideas for nice valentine dates from dinner and a movie to a picnic in the park, but if you want to really WOW her this year, with a romantic Valentine idea that is sweet and unique, think about a sleigh ride. Is this the night you will propose and are looking for a special, romantic setting? Or are you celebrating a love of many years and want to surprise her with a special romantic evening?

Picture you and your sweetheart cuddled up under a warm robe in an antique style horse drawn sleigh. Your horse drawn sleigh will softly swoosh through a winter wonderland of snow to the tinkling of sleigh bells. Maybe there are snowflakes falling gently, or maybe the sky is clear and sprinkled with stars. What more do you need to feel as if you are in a Victorian picture post card?

No Snow? Take a Horse Drawn Carriage Ride

If you don’t live near a snowy area, a romantic horse drawn carriage ride is also a wonderful touch. Some cities, like New York City are noted for the romantic carriage rides through their parks. Other historic places like Charleston, St. Augustine, New Orleans and Savannah, Georgia offer carriage tours and drives through beautiful historic districts. Book well in advance if you would like a carriage featuring special amenities like champagne, snacks and romantic music.

Romantic Sleigh Rides in Winter Resort Areas

Sleigh Rides in winter resort areas may be even more romantic. A sleigh ride in Banff offers special sleigh rides for two with chocolates, liquors and an authentic buffalo robe for snuggling.

Other sleigh rides will stop at a bonfire for hot chocolate and marshmallows. If you live in a part of the country where there is winter snow, consider a sleigh ride for a very romantic and unique experience.

Where to Find Sleigh Rides

Where to find Sleigh Rides. If you would like to arrange a Valentine’s Day Sleigh ride for your sweetheart, many ski resorts offer horse drawn sleigh rides followed by mulled cider or hot chocolate back at the lodge in front of a blazing fire. Wouldn’t a late afternoon sleigh ride followed by drinks in front of the fire and dinner in a cozy rustic dining room be a perfect Valentine’s Day date?

Another place to check locally for “sleigh rides” to find a farm near you that offers sleigh rides. Good bets are places like Christmas Tree farms, wineries, pumpkin farms and large country farmers markets or orchards that extend their season by hosting sleigh rides. Try this link for a partial listing of tree farms and other places that offer horse drawn sleigh rides or search for sleigh rides in your state. In an area where winter snow is common, you are sure to find a few places offering winter sleigh rides.

There is nothing more romantic than a sleigh ride with a significant other! I found it also fun but less romantic to take the whole family.

Very enjoyable hub brought back some memories. thanks for sharing

Thanks for visiting my hub, Mruptrend. A horse drawn sleigh ride would be a great family activity over the kids' Christmas vacation, wouldn't it? But reserve Valentine's Day for a romantic sleigh ride, couples only!

I absolutely adore horse drawn sleigh rides and have been blessed to have a hubby who loves to take me on them! We took winter sleigh rides in Saratoga, NY, fall in Kennebunkport, and lovely southern sleigh rides in stunningly beautiful Beaufort, SC, Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA, and St. Augustine, FL.

It's a great way to tour a new city and if you take a group sleigh ride it's often as economical as a bus tour but so much more romantic.

These all sound wonderful, Happy! What a romantic husband you have, and what a lovely way to see a beautiful old city.

This sounds like a wonderful idea. I have never been on a sleigh ride. I will have to do some checking in this area to see if the options are available. Thanks for sharing this wonderful idea.

tlpoague - Places like wineries, pumpkin farms and garden farms are a good place to start looking for sleigh rides. If there's no snow, a romantic carriage ride would be fun, too! Good luck and happy Valentine's Day!

A Romantic gift that i would surely enjoy in a beautiful sunny winter with white snow on the grounds.

I did have horse drawn sleigh rides in Tirol, Austria and it was so nice and comfortable with warm wool blankets and my husband's arms on my shoulder that keeps me warm. Hope to experience this once again soon.

This is such a sweet hub! Thanks for the early reminder. I want to do something special for my wife this year. It has been a bit of a tough one. A sleigh ride might be out of the question (Florida), but we can go on a carriage ride in old Winter Garden.

Carolp - It sounds so romantic to take a sleigh ride bundled up under warm wool blankets with your husband's arms around you! What a lovely picture you paint of a sunny, snowy day!

Carozy - Thanks for visiting. Glad you like the idea of a romantic Valentine's Day sleigh ride!

Sounds like fun, but it doesn't snow where we live, and we don't go to the snow, either. We have a deal with the stuff: it stays in the mountains, and we stay in the valley! ;-)

Great info, and beautiful idea, for those who love snow. Voted up, beautiful and interesting. (I do love horses--from a distance--I can't afford to own one.)

DzyMsLizzy - Snowy activities are not for everyone, but a horse drawn carriage ride is a lovely option for those who live in warmer climates. Many historical cities offer carriage tours of their historic districts that are very fun and interesting. Thanks for stopping by to comment!

Ah, yes, we've taken a carriage tour (in summer) around the town of South Lake Tahoe (snowy in winter) and I think Old Town Sacramento (about an hour away from us), has them as well, albeit very pricey. Thanks again for a beautiful article.

"Why am I living in the southern hemisphere", I ask myself? There is no chance of such pleasure for me, oh my!

This has been a nice light read bringing joy to Valentines day.

Will you be going on a sleigh ride?

Stephanie Henkel profile image

Stephanie Henkel Hub Author 4 months ago

LadyLyell - Haha...no, there's no snow where we live now in North Carolina, but we have enjoyed many fun activities in the snow in years gone by. Sometimes I still miss those cozy days by the fire watching the snow fall or the days of sleigh riding with the kids...A horse drawn sleigh ride on Valentine's Day would be a special treat!

Down here in Florida we will settle for a horse drawn carriage ride. They do them right downtown here and one of the carriages is all lite up and looks like Cinderella's carriage. Great idea hub for Valentine's! Thanks for sharing!
